About Hammond, LA - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
With a population of over 20,000 people, Hammond, Louisiana is the largest city found in Tangipahoa Parish. This city was named for Swedish immigrant Peter Hammond, who was thought to have first settled the area in 1818. This community is a great place to both live and work, with a variety of medical facilities being found here, including NorthOaks Medical Center. The city’s public schools are operated by the Tangipahoa Parish School System, including Hammond High School, and higher education is available within the community at Southeastern Louisiana University.
There are several notable attractions located in the Hammond area. The Louisiana Children’s Discovery Center is a great place for young families to spend an afternoon, as are the Safari Quest Family Fun Center and Kliebert’s Turtle and Alligator Farm. Visitors often enjoy checking out the great selection of craft beers at The Red White & Brew, and Bayou Booksellers is an interesting destination for visitors who want to spend some time browsing for their next favorite read.
Hammond residents will enjoy warmer weather conditions than most other portions of the U.S. The summers are hot and humid, with high temperatures reaching the 90s. The Gulf brings a significant amount of moisture to the area, making summer the wettest season, and the area is especially susceptible to hurricane activity due to its low elevation. When hot weather conditions arise, residents are fortunate to have a cool place to hide out with an efficient air conditioning system in place.
During the winter, residents can enjoy mild weather conditions with high temperatures reaching the 60s. While this may sound like residents won’t need to utilize a home heating system, nighttime lows generally fall to the low-40s. This means that a furnace or heat pump is a necessity during the winter, despite the mild daytime temperatures. Snow is rare, but on occasion, cold fronts with freezing temperatures can move into the area.
